NRMERA annually gives out four awards: the Dr. Gregg Schraw Graduate Student Fellowship Award, Early Career Award, Exemplary Service Award, and the Distinguished Paper Award. Below you will find a description of each award and a list of past winners.

Dr. Gregory Schraw Graduate Student Fellowship Award

Graduate students who are attending NRMERA’s annual conference are eligible to apply for this award. Recipients receive $250 and formal recognition at the annual conference.

Exemplary Service Award 

NRMERA will solicit nominations yearly for the Exemplary NRMERA Service Award. The award will be presented each year at the NRMERA conference to recognize a member of NRMERA who is has consistently dedicated time, energy, and wisdom to the Association. A plaque will be given to the recipient at the annual meeting to honor their award.
The Exemplary NRMERA Service Award Committee will consist of (2) state representatives, (1) executive committee member, and the historian (chair).
The NRMERA Executive Committee will ratify all recommendations of the award committee. A nominee who does not win the award will automatically have his or her materials considered for a second year.

Criteria for the Award
Candidates for the award must have the following criteria:

  • Held an officer position or contributed significant service to NRMERA; and
  • Have been visibly active in NRMERA for no less than 10 years.
  • If someone does not receive the award, they will automatically be considered for the following year award.

Requirements for Nominating a Candidate for the Award

  • Two letters of recommendation that speak to the criteria listed above
  • Self-nominations are acceptable

Early Career Award

NRMERA will solicit nominations yearly for the NRMERA Early Career Award. The award will be presented each year at the NRMERA conference to recognize a member of NRMERA who is early in his or her career and has made significant contributions to NRMERA and to the field of education. A plaque will be given to the recipient at the annual meeting to honor their award.

The award committee will consist of (2) state representatives, (1) executive committee member, and the graduate student representative. The president will appoint the chair of the committee.

The NRMERA Executive Committee will ratify recommendations of the awards committee. A nominee who does not win the award will automatically have his or her materials considered for a second year, if still eligible.

Criteria for the Award
Candidates for the award must have combination of the following criteria:

  • Have a doctorate in a related field to education (i.e., curriculum and instruction, special education, educational psychology, school counseling, educational leadership, educational assessment, etc.);
  • Have been granted a degree within the last 8 years;
  • Have been visibly active in NRMERA for no less than 4 years; and
  • Show promise of achieving national visibility.
  • If someone does not receive the award, they will automatically be considered for the following year award.

Requirements for Nominating a Candidate for the Award:

  • A current curriculum vitae, and
  • Two letters of recommendation that speak to the criteria listed above
  • Self-nominations are acceptable
