2016 Award Nominations

**Deadline for Nominations is September 16th, 2016**

Exemplar Service Award–NRMERA is seeking nominations for the Exemplar NRMERA Service Award. The award recognizes a member of NRMERA who has consistently dedicated time, energy, and wisdom to the Association. It will be presented at the upcoming NRMERA conference in October, 2016. The Exemplar NRMERA Service Award Committee will consist of (2) state representatives, (1) executive committee member, and the historian (chair). A plaque and one (1) year membership and registration will be given to the recipient at the annual meeting to honor their award.

Criteria–Candidates for the award must have the following criteria:

  • Held an officer position or has contributed significant service to NRMERA;
  • Have been visibly active in NRMERA for no less than 10 years.

Nominations–the following items must be submitted by the nominator:

  • Name and affiliation of nominee
  • Statement describing current and past positions in NRMERA of the nominee
  • Two letters of recommendation (including one from nominator) that speak to the criteria listed above
  • Contact information of nominator
  • Self-nominations are acceptable
  • All information must be submitted to Aaron S. Richmond (arichmo3@msudenver.edu) 
  • Deadline for submission is September 16th, 2016

NRMERA Early Career Award–NRMERA The award will be presented at the annual NRMERA conference to recognize a member of NRMERA who is early in his or her career and has made significant contributions to our association and to the field of education. A plaque and one (1) membership and conference registration will be given to the recipient to honor their accomplishment.

Criteria–Candidates for the award must have combination of the following criteria:

  • Have a doctorate in a related field to education (i.e., curriculum and instruction, special education, educational psychology, school counseling, educational leadership, educational assessment, etc.);
  • Have been granted their degree within 8 years of their nomination;
  • Have been visibly active in NRMERA for no less than 4 years; and
  • Show promise of achieving national visibility.
  • The NRMERA Executive Committee will ratify recommendations of the awards committee. A nominee who does not win the award may automatically have his or her materials considered for a second year, if still eligible.

Nominations–the following items must be submitted by the nominator:

  • A current curriculum vitae of the nominee;
  • Two letters of recommendation that speak to the criteria listed above;
  • Self-nominations are acceptable;
  • All nominations should be sent to Shannon Taylor (shanon@unr.edu)

NRMERA Distinguished Paper Award–Each year NRMERA presents the Distinguished Paper Award at our annual conference. If your proposal was accepted to be presented at this year’s conference, please consider entering your paper into this competition. It is our opportunity to acknowledge excellence in research in the region and to support the dissemination of research at a national level. There are three incentives for submitting your paper for consideration. The author of the winning paper will receive:

  1. Automatic acceptance to present the paper at the 2017 annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA).
  2. $500 to help offset travel expenses to attend AERA.
  3. Priority consideration for publication in The Researcher, NRMERA’s journal.

The deadline for submitting a paper for consideration of this award is September 16th, 2016 Submissions should be sent electronically as an MS Word or PDF file to Chris Was (cwas@kent.edu).

The New Dr. Gregory Schraw Student Fellowship! Check it out! 

The Schraw Student Fellowship will provide funds to undergraduate and graduate students who plan to attend and present their research at the annual NRMERA conference. The conference is held in one of the member states including Wyoming, Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Colorado. The NRMERA is the regional affiliate of the American Educational Research Association. While membership draws mostly from researchers and educators in the Rocky Mountain West, all researchers and educators are welcome to be a part of this organization. An annual conference is held and the organization publishes a peer reviewed journal entitled: Educational Research: Theory & Practice. More to come soon.
